About the College

The College of Health and Human Performance provides nationally and internationally recognized education and research programs that focus on helping people protect, maintain, and improve their health, fitness, and quality of life. These interdisciplinary programs lead to the Bachelor of Science Degree, and Master of Science Degree, and Doctor of Philosophy Degree.

Specifically, the College is concerned with three broad areas of study that are organized under the following departments:

  • Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology
This department is primarily concerned with the immediate and lasting effects of exercise and its use in disease prevention and rehabilitation. Faculty members are dedicated in the broadest sense to understanding and researching health and exercise, to influencing exercise outcomes. Of interest is the full spectrum of human potential: from young to old, fit to unfit, healthy to diseased, able-bodied to disabled, and from the casual recreational participant to the high-level athlete.
  • Department of Health Education and Behavior
The major concerns of this department are bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and public understanding of life-style in personal health and facilitating behavior changes that lead to more healthful living.
  • Department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management
This department focuses on understanding tourism, recreation activities, sports (amateur and professional), ecotourism, parks & beaches and on the benefits of these on the personal, social, economic, environmental and resource infrastructures of society.

In addition to these three departments, the College supports three major centers:
